We found this poster plastered on a wall outside a church in Puebla’s historic center. Not inside. Not framed. Just out there on the street, slightly weathered, and clearly altered by hand. The Virgin of Guadalupe—Lupita to people who actually talk to her—surrounded by spray-painted “Lupita, cuídanos de los policías” (Lupita, protect us from the police).
It’s not subtle. It’s not polite. And that’s probably the point. This design reproduces that moment exactly as we saw it—bold color, rough texture, and the kind of visual collision you only get when devotion, frustration, faith, and protest all share the same wall.
