Canine Studies by Moriz Jung, 1912

We first discovered these wonderfully eccentric dogs at New York City’s Neue Galerie, a museum devoted to German and Austrian art and design. Created by Austrian artist Moriz Jung in 1912 as a series of lithographed postcards for Vienna’s famed Wiener Werkstätte, they’re less interested in perfect anatomy than unmistakable personality. Proud, stubborn, dignified, suspicious, or simply delighted to be here, each dog feels like an individual rather than just a breed.
