New Amsterdam Coat of Arms T-Shirt
Before there was New York, there was New Amsterdam—a scrappy Dutch trading post where beaver pelts were big business, the streets were muddy, and nobody imagined the city would one day scrape the clouds.
Heraldry has produced some magnificent works over the centuries. This isn’t necessarily one of them. But it is wonderfully earnest—a pair of beavers standing guard over Amsterdam’s shield and a corporate logo for the Dutch West India Company sitting on the crown. It’s equal parts civic pride, colonial branding, and over-the-top symbolism.
We restored the artwork from a historic source while preserving its aged character, then printed it on soft, lightweight ringspun cotton with a comfortable unisex fit. Wear it as a quiet nod to the city that came before New York—or because two beavers holding up a coat of arms is objectively terrific.
