Hotel Benton Mug
Once upon a time, the Hotel Benton hosted travelers, banquets, and presumably a fair number of people who needed coffee in the morning.
Now you can have your coffee with a little piece of the hotel's history.
This mug features artwork from a vintage Hotel Benton matchbook I discovered while digging through the past. I've preserved the original design, including its slightly worn appearance and the wonderfully confident advertising slogan that appeared on the matchbook:
ABSOLUTELY FIREPROOF
Printed as it was on a matchbook, I assume it was a dare. The Hotel Benton is long gone, though the building remains a familiar part of downtown Corvallis. And this mug is way more practical than a 77-year-old matchbook. It's ready for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or whatever gets you through the morning.
And unlike the original souvenir, you can safely put something hot inside it.
