Budapest Sewer Works T-Shirt

$27.99

Most visitors to Budapest take photos of the Parliament Building, Fisherman's Bastion, or the Chain Bridge. I take photos of sewer covers.

In my defense, Budapest's are unusually handsome. Somewhere along the way, somebody decided that even the city's utility covers deserved elegant typography, decorative flourishes, and solid craftsmanship that can survive being driven over by buses for a hundred years. I appreciate that kind of commitment.

This design is based on an actual utility cover we spotted in Budapest's Castle District, reimagined as a block print and simplified into a bold blue graphic celebrating one of the city's most overlooked details. Chances are there are dozens more just like it scattered across Budapest—but this is the one that stopped me in my tracks.

Printed in vintage blue on soft cotton with a lightly weathered finish, it's a shirt for people who occasionally find themselves photographing the ground while everyone else is admiring the skyline. We know who we are.
